Growing up my family didn't really do much for Lent each year. We obviously talked about it but we didn't make a big deal about what we were giving up for the 40 days. However Clayton always gives up something every year. Since he and I have been together I have given up beef, sweet tea (a few times), and last year we both gave up all meat except seafood. the only year I didn't give anything up was 2010 when I was pregnant with Alice. So this year I was set on giving up sweets. I don't eat them all the time, but I do get frozen yogurt at least once a week :) and I eat chocolate here and there. But after reading a couple of articles about Lent I realized that it doesn't have to be something food related. I spend so much time on Facebook. Being at home most days and having the handy dandy app on my iPhone makes it so easy to get caught up in it. So, after thinking about it I figured I should give it up and use that time to a. spend more time with God, and b. do more productive things. And the first couple of days were strange not being able to go on there, but now it's kind of nice. I've been reading more devotionals, been able to read (for fun) more, and been able to pack without getting distracted by ol' FB! I'm glad I made this decision this year and who knows...maybe I'll do it from here on out!
